In previous papers, I presented an inference method for rst-order logic based on the transformation between canonical normal forms (Bittencourt, 1994) and a concurrent algorithm for this transformation that, in the one hand, generates only clauses that are not subsumed by any other and, in the other hand, is naturally concurrent and therefore easy to parallelize (Bitten-court, 1995). This algorithm is based on a special representation of sets of clauses and dual clauses. In this representation, the sets of clauses and dual clauses are represented by sets of particles and dual particles, respectively, where each (dual) particle is deened as a set of quanta. A quantum { denoted by (F;S) i { is a mathematical structure that consists of three elements: a logical literal i , contructed from predicate P i , and two sets of integers F and S. In a quantum that belongs to a dual particle, the set F of xed coordinates indicates which clauses contain the literal i in their deenition and the set S of subsumed coordinates indicates which clauses contain in their deenitions literals 0 i , also constructed from predicate P i , such that i subsumes 0 i. The quanta that belong to particles are deened analogously. A quantum is intended to be a compact representation of the context information about each literal that occurs in the sets of clauses and dual clauses.
